The Naval Air Station Jacksonville (NAS Jax) Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Program was recently named one of the best in the Navy earning five-star accreditation from Commander, Naval Installations Command (CNIC).

The CNIC Accreditation program was established in 2010 to increase program standards and recognize top performers. Program standards form the foundation of daily operations and are reinforced by MWR leadership. 

"In previous years, four stars were the highest level anyone was awarded and we did achieve that level in 2011 and 2013," said MWR Installation Program Manager John Bushick. 

According to Bushick, "They also look at how MWR is performing financially, the percentages from our plan to actual spending and that all business activities are in the black, not in red flag status. When you look at the individual programs that we have, we have met the standards and performed very well."

A four-person team reviewed workbook binders that managers of the individual facilities and programs keep during a four-day period.

 "What's great about the review team is that is made up of other MWR personnel, so they truly know your processes and how business is conducted," said Bushick.

Of the few minor issues the team found, Bushick said they weren't surprises and were issues that are being corrected soon. Items that exceeded expectations by the team included the success of the Tickets and Travel office, operations at the golf course and the appearance of Dewey's facility.

An email was sent throughout the command with the announcement of the award and NAS Jax Commanding Officer Capt. Sean Haley was quick to acknowledge the team on their achievement.

"I'd like to congratulate John Bushick and our entire MWR Department on achieving CNIC five-star accreditation. Five-star accreditation is the highest rating possible for an MWR Department and this significant accomplishment required the efforts of our entire MWR team," wrote Haley. "They successfully demonstrated to the inspectors what they do for our Sailors and patrons each and every day - provide the absolute best customer service within CNIC."
