A total of 10 commands joined the annual Command Sports Challenge presented by the Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR) Department's Intramural Sports program Oct. 20 - 21 aboard NAS Jacksonville.
This two-day competition consisted of 10 events: the 1,500 meter relay; 3-on-3 basketball; dodge ball; Ultimate Frisbee; swim relay; fitness challenge; 3-on-3 volleyball; bean bag toss; tug of war; and the CO canoe race. Command participation included teams from CRS-10, VP-16, CV-TSC, CPRW-11, CBMU202, NRSE RCC, VP-62, VR-62, not to mention the returning champions from FACSFAC and first time participants from FRCSE.
FRCSE took a 200-point lead after the first five events on day one. Commands VR-62, NRSE RCC and VP-62 were the few who had complete participation in all ten events. FRCSE's Skipper, XO and MCPO participated in the CO canoe race to receive the maximum participation points, then won the final race and sealed the deal on winning the 2016 Command Sports Challenge with a total of 1200 points.
"Let's not forget that one of the most exciting moments of the competition was when the MWR Ladies took on the NRSE RCC Ladies in tug of war," MWR Sports Coordinator Bill Bonser exclaimed, "especially when the MWR Ladies prevailed!"
FRCSE will hold on to the Command Sports Challenge trophy, granting them bragging rights for the next year. MWR wishes to thank all participating commands for stepping up to the challenge this year and looks forward to the commands and patrons that will join next year. Thanks to VyStar Credit Union and USAA for sponsoring this event.
