Sailors and aircraft from the HS-7 ''Dusty Dogs'' and HS-15 ''Red Lions'' are currently embarked aboard USS George Washington (CVN-73) until early September.

The squadrons are conducting operations in support of USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) and USS George Washington by flying plane guard, logistics support, vertical replenishment and other assigned missions.

This marks the first time the two squadrons have joined as a composite detachment, where each command has supplied personnel and equipment in support of a common mission.

Due to the Red Lions recent return from the Combat Wave One Medevac Air Ambulance mission in Iraq, the composite squadron detachment was formed to aid in HS-15's transition back to sea operations.

Flight operations will be conducted using assets from both squadrons in order to maximize aircrew training and to meet the operation and maintenance requirements of both squadrons.

Training will focus on carrier qualifications, plane guard, antisurface warfare and deck handling proficiency with HS-7 providing qualified aircraft commanders for all over water training sorties.
