SOQs recognized at special luncheon

CNOCM(SW/AW) Richard Trimmer, command master chief of Navy Region Southeast, was the guest speaker for the event. ''To be a U.S. Sailor and to be counted among the best of that group - that makes you a hero,'' he said. ''The vast majority of people will never know what you do. You and your families have a desire to serve and a desire to improve. We need your service and your leadership.''

Each command has three awardees: Senior Sailor of the Quarter (SSOQ), Sail-or of the Quarter and Junior Sailor of the Quar-ter (JSOQ). The award-ees were joined at the luncheon by members of their chain of command and members of their family at the NAS Jax Officers' Club.

After the luncheon, which included a Polynesian menu, each Sailor received a Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department coupon book, letter of recognition, $50 savings bond from VyStar Credit Union and two tickets to a Jacksonville Jaguars pre-season game.

There was also a surprise drawing, which awarded three Sailors and their family a coupon book from Applebee's Restaurant with a $50 coupon for every week of the upcoming year.

''To honor military families for their patriotism, Applebee's chose to award this coupon book to a different family each month,'' said K.C. McCarthy, executive director for the Greater Jackson-ville Area USO. ''These three Sailors and their families will represent the winners for Sep-tember, October and November.''

The winners of the Applebee's coupon books are PRAN(AW) Brandon Gulley, JSOQ for VS-24, SMSN James Bilicki, JSOQ for NAS Jax Weapons Department and PS1(SW/AW) Marcie Farley, SSOQ for Personnel Support Detachment Jacksonville.
