Military resort in northern Germany offers an exclusive getaway

Photos by Kaylee LaRocque The Edelweiss Lodge and Resort is a premier military facility located in Germany's Bavarian Alps in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area. It features a variety of recreational activities for military families including bike rentals, special tours, fitness center, swimming pool and hot tub, etc.

The Edelweiss Lodge and Re-sort in Garmisch, Germany offers a wide variety of amenities to its military guests.

The resort, which is surrounded by the Bavarian Alps, features a huge stone fireplace with a lounge area, Internet Caf, three restaurants, gift shop, children's play area, indoor swimming pool, outside hot tub, The Point Wellness Club, massage therapy, snack bar, casino gaming room, arcade, ATM machines and a laundry facility.

Guests can also sign up for daily tours to Munich, Germany, Innsbruck City, Austria, Dachau Concentration Camp, the Three Country Tour, Berchtesgaden Eagle's Nest and trips to Neusch-wanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace built by King Ludwig II in the 1800s. All tours begin and end at the front door of the resort. Each night horse carriages arrive at the resort to take guests on a tour around Garmisch's quaint streets.

The downtown shopping district, a short walk or bike ride away, features numerous shops and cafes where visitors can find Bavarian souvenirs and treasures.

For those looking to check out the beautiful countryside, the resort offers such trips as the Eibsee Excursion to Lake Eibsee complete with a boat ride and walk around the lake, the Farchant Nature Walk to see the Kuhflucht Waterfall, Garmisch-Partenkirchen City Walk to learn about the history of this alpine city and the Partnach Gorge Tour for those who want to do some hiking.

Garmisch offers numerous walking trails throughout the picturesque countryside. In spring and summer, the landscape is lush and fields of wildflowers cover the meadows beneath the mountains. The resort also offers bike rentals for all ages and has a wide variety of mountain bikes available.

Guests who need that adrenaline rush, will be thrilled with the high adventure activities available through the resort. Some of these include white water rafting on the Inn River in Austria, Europe's latest craze called canyoning (climbing, rappelling, jumping and swimming), kayaking and tandem paragliding flights off Kreuzeck Mountain.

The indoor swimming pool on the lower level of the resort is fun for all ages. The lower level also features a laundry room, fitness center, snack bar, arcade game room, Zuggy's Base Camp restaurant and a slot machine room.
