NAS Postal Employee says goodbye

David Kistler has seen a lot during the 20 years he has served at NAS Jackson-ville's Post Office. He first came aboard the base in 1986 as a window clerk in the old wooden post office on Saratoga Avenue next to the former Jacksonville Navy Credit Union before moving to the current building on Child Street a few years ago.

Kistler has punched the time clock with great co-workers including Joyce George, Lutrell Greenaway, Janet Pierotti, Julie Villareal, and Dwight Prtichard. "His outgoing personality is contagious and we are surly going to miss him," said NAS Jax Postal Employee Janet Pierotti.

He's helped parents, spouses, and children mail many a care package to loved ones deployed all over the world, most inked with rubber stamps depicting messages of love that Kistler has collected for that "special touch."

He's prayed for the safety of squadrons heading overseas, rejoiced in their safe returns and enjoyed the camaraderie of the military postal employees, the hospital cafeteria staff, the ITT office staff, and the Navy Exchange Staff (where David takes his daily walking exercise).

Kistler always loved the yearly 'field trip to the Post Office' by the NAS Jax Child Care Center and delighted in their Halloween Costume Parades. He never imagined that he would leave NAS Jax before retirement, but a position opened up at the Cecil Commerce Center Post Office and he won the bid.

He regrets leaving NAS Jax, but the position offers a promotion and is much closer to home. "Dave will be missed by all," said NAS JaxPostalService Supervisor Leon Fells.

"During the last 20 years, he has served his customers with great pride. NAS Jax will never be the same without him."
