YAC sponsors competition

The NAS Jax Youth Activities Center sponsored the Junior Olympic Skills Competition May 25 for children enrolled in the center's After School program.

This free youth program allows boys and girls to compete separately and showcase their athletic abilities in four events including basketball, soccer, tennis and track and field.

The following are the winners of each event held here:

Basketball - Boys

8-9 years - Bashiri Brooks

10-11 years - Andre Williams

12-13 years- Andre Horne Williams

Shatahvia Grier gives it her all as she starts the 50-meter sprint of the track and field portion of the Junior Olympic Skills Competition. Children attending the After School program at the NAS Jax Youth Activities Center competed in basketball, soccer, track and field. Winners were selected in three different age categories. The winners are now eligible to compete in teh regional competition in Orlando June 30.

Basketball - Girls

8-9 years - Raven Jackson

10-11 years - Desiree Williams

12-13 years - Alex Jackson

Soccer - Boys

8-9 years - Bashiri Brooks

10-11 years - David Smashum

12-13 years - Andre Horne Williams

The winners will advance to the regional competition which will be held June 30 in Orlando.
