Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility Jacksonville celebrates 30th anniversary
FACSFAC Jax Commanding Officer Capt. Robert Buehn gave the opening remarks for the ceremony. "We're proud to be celebrating 30 years of service to fleet here in Jacksonville, as we oversee a range complex that has become more important to the Navy than ever over the last few years. And, I'm especially pleased to be able to host the first FACSFAC Jacksonville commanding officer, retired Cmdr. George Allen. He's the man who started it all."
Allen, who attended the ceremony remarked, "I'm in awe at the advances made in the past 30 years at FACSFAC Jax!"
"It is great to recognize the history of your command. Understanding where you came from gives appreciation for where you are today," added NAS Jax Commanding Officer Chip Dobson.
This anniversary highlighted the achievements of past and present Sailors of FACSFAC, including an awards ceremony recognizing 21 Sailors for their outstanding work. These Sailors were: ETC(SW) Todd Picard, ET1(SW) Robert Hernandez, ET1(SW) Victor Veguilladdejesus, AC1 Nicholas Secaur, AC1(AW) Robert Lawson, AC1 Greg Cunningham, AC2 Nina Buruca, AC2 Mike Jakubowski, AC2 Alexa Mitchell, AC2(AW/SW) Adrian Adkins, AC3 Cory Rash, AC3 Eric Adames, OS2(SW) Willie Bouie, OS2(SW) Trevor Edwards, OS2(SW) Scott Fulton, OS2(SW) Talovlah Gillem, OS2(SW) Chester Hall, OS2(SW) Daneesha Peeples, OS2(SW) Josh Snyder, OS2(SW) Errol Torregano and OS3(SW) Tiffany Rebant.
FACSFAC Jax schedules and controls the offshore fleet operating areas, military special use airspace, land target and electronic warfare missions. It provides full air traffic control services by directly interfacing with Federal Aviation Administration and military/civil approach controls, as well as coordinating operations with United States Coast Guard search and rescue units, anti-immigration interdiction defense operations, federal drug interdiction teams, Maritime Homeland Security operations and the Southeast Air Defense Sector.
