Naval Medicine responds with "corpsman up!"
The event resulted in one "fatality" and 11 "wounded." Many of the victims sustained burns, lacerations and other wounds - all courtesy of hospital moulage artists who applied realistic makeup to the victims. Those who were about to "suffer greatly" came from the NAS Jax Quarterdeck, Transient Personnel Unit and Air Operations. The injured did a splendid job of kicking up the excitement with moans, groans and cries for assistance.
Hospital Disaster Preparedness Officer Dana Shropshire, under the guidance of hospital EOC Incident Commander and Executive Officer Capt. Jennifer Vedal-Baron, made sure that the hospital's response was well coordinated.
The EOC members were all tasked by instruction with specific things to accomplish and a hospital representative at the base EOC helped coordinate medical response from their site.

With today's realities, all of Navy Medicine knows how important it is to be able to deal with anything from aircraft crashes to acts of terrorism or natural disasters.
