A grand celebration held Jan. 17 at the NAS Jacksonville Officers' club officially ended the 2006 Northeast Florida/ Southeast Georgia Combined federal Campaign (CFC).

This year's campaign generated $2,184,026 in contributions that will be distributed among the non-profit organization approved by a special committee to become recipients. This is the seventh consecutive year the drive has topped 2 million.

The year's theme was "United We Stand, United We give."

Although the campaign proved to be a huge success, some wondered how the lingering effects of Katrina, BRAC and the downsizing of commands would affect this year's campaign. "In 2005, the country had a clear cut reason to give, other than from the heart. With Katrina in the shadows, downsizing was in the forefront, it was anyone's guess as to how the season would end," said NAS Jax CFC Chairperson CWO3 Ray Peterson of the NAS Jax Supply Department.

"This year's campaign started off slow, with a few pledges coming in during September. In November, the campaign picked up to only slow during the holiday stand down. After the holidays, the numbers were totaled and the commands at NAS Jax had achieved more than 97 percent of their overall goal of $655,000," added Peterson. "This year proved that there are a lot of people who really care and have a genuine concern for others. This year produced 90 Double Eagles and 194 Eagle givers. The total pledged was $638,591 leading all military installations within the Southeast Region."

According to Peterson, the campaign wouldn't have been possible without the dedicated support of numerous volunteers including: Loan Executives Angela Roberson, Fleet Readiness Center (FRC) Southeast; Karol Higginbotham, Commander, Navy Region Southeast; Lt. Justin Dowe, Naval Hospital Jax; CS1 Bobby St. George, NAS Jax Supply Department; Sharon Griffin, FRC Southeast, Coordinators Doneese Kemp; Lindawan Wilson; Aurora Reyes; Michael DeJeunes; Patty Freeman; Brenda Leino; Keith Bass; Lt. Kevin Solem; Curtis Wilson; Lashunda Spencer; Jane Beason; Lt. Michael Haney; Lt. Matthew Powers; SK2 Liva Moore; SH2 Tiffany Yarbough and Lt. j.g. Robert Ralston.
