The clear, blue sky and perfect weather brought out more than 1,300 families who attended the Fall Fest Nov. 18 aboard Naval Station Jacksonville (NAS Jax) in the grassy lot across from Dewey's.
First celebrated in 1993, the event coincided with the Month of the Military Family to honor the sacrifices and contributions of military families as they support their service members year-round. The Fall Fest is one of the ways that NAS Jax's Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR) Department celebrates.
Community Recreation Director Kristin Riddle remarked, "MWR hosts this annual event to celebrate our military families by providing a day where they can come out, relax and spend time together."
A variety of games and activities were available and allowed family members of any age to enjoy themselves. Such activities included pony rides, a carnival swing, monkey jumper, rock wall, the adrenalator, family photo booth, a bubble artist, game tents, family crafts, free custom airbrush t-shirts, a cupcake walk, face painting, glitter tattoos and local craft vendors to shop for gifts for the holidays.
DJ Justin from Progressive Entertainment kept the event live with a selection of popular songs, as well as games for children and families to compete, such as limbo, tug-o-war, hula hoop contest, sack racing and more. There were also a variety of food and beverages available for purchase from Dewey's, Snowie Ice Food Truck & Cosmo's Kettle Corn.
On-site sponsors included VyStar Credit Union and KB Home. MWR wishes to thank every staff member, volunteer and family who made this event such a success!
Neither NAS Jacksonville, MWR nor Jax Air News or any part of the federal government, officially endorses any company or sponsor or their products or services.
