SH2 Matthew Grant of the Naval Air Station Jacksonville (NAS Jax) Unaccompanied Housing, was recently selected as the Sailor of the Third Quarter of fiscal year 2017.
"I feel really good about winning this award. The last person who won was also from Supply and it feels good to keep it in the family," Grant said.
Grant has been in the Navy for about seven years and says he loves his job.
"I love interacting with people, it is customer service. It is easy for me to deal with people and even out of the Navy you have to deal with people all the time," Grant stated.
Grant is currently attending college for multimedia production. He loves working with a camera, whether it is taking photos or recording video.
In his spare time, Grant works mainly with video recordings. He may take pictures when he is around town, but his main focus is working with local recording artists to take their photos and make videos for them.
Grant's favorite duty station is Yokosuka, Japan, where he was stationed for five years. He plans on returning to take more pictures and videos, and to further experience the culture there.
He is originally from Bronx, New York. "New York is very busy, which was a lot like Japan, but the big change was moving to the south. It is very different in Jacksonville," Grant stated.
"Grant is a stand-out Sailor," said Unaccompanied Housing Leading Petty Officer SH1 Nicolete Nasario. "He responds to any challenge and he is very reliable. He is the epitome of a Sailor and his leadership is off the wall."
