Hundreds of E1-E6 single and unaccompanied service members and Reservists gathered in the field near unaccompanied housing for the Spring Barracks Bash April 27 aboard NAS Jacksonville.

Upon arrival, service members entered a prize drawing contest and received free Spring Barracks Bash T-shirts. The open field was filled with activities, sports and challenges for attendees to enjoy.

A few first time events included a huge metal GyroSphere for guests to sit inside of and then rotate and spin rapidly; Bongo Ball, a cross between paintball and capture the flag; a Dunk Tank; and the Human Zorb, inflatables that allows participants to race and roll around inside of a giant plastic ball, similar to a hamster.

Other events for service members to enjoy included a Rock Wall, Sumo Wrestling, Bean Bag Toss, Airbrush Tattoos, football and Volleyball.

First time attendee Lance Cpl. Ethan Nikniai of the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Jax, was shocked and excited about how many events and activities there were available at the Spring Barracks Bash.

Nikniai mentioned, "It's pretty fun, it's hot and I'm just having a great time with my friends. The best thing about it is the food and the games."

Two major events for the evening involved the tug-of-war competition and the limbo contest. Teams of Sailors and Marines challenged each other for the tug-of-war battle with the Marines remaining the undefeated champions.

In the midst of the excitement, a variety of special prizes were awarded to random attendees. The prize list consisted of a $25 gift card to Buffalo Wild Wings, $25 gift card to Chili's, $50 gift card to the NEX, a $50 Visa gift card, a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, a Bose Soundlink Mini Bluetooth Speaker, a pair of Beats by Dre Studio headphones, a 32" LED Samsung Smart TV, a Samsung 2.1 Channel Soundbar System.

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp provided six bags for winners, which included game tickets and a T-shirt. One of the bags had a special certificate with four dugout seats and a first pitch at one of the home baseball games.

Food provided by Dewey's consisted of chicken, pulled pork, corn on the cob chips, cookies and beverages.
