Shannon Davenport was announced as the Commander, Navy Region Southeast (CNRSE) Senior Civilian of the Year for 2016 during a January all hands meeting at Naval Air Station (NAS) Jacksonville.
Davenport is a region inspector and investigator in the CNRSE inspector general (IG) department. Currently, she is forward deployed to NAS Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base in Texas. While there, Davenport has performed superbly as Navy Region Southeast's Managers' Internal Control (MIC) Program coordinator, not only impacting the base in Fort Worth, but every installation and program in the Southeast Region.
"Ms. Davenport's greatest contribution to the workplace is her commitment to the IG mission," said Paul Bedsole, Davenport's department head and inspector general for Navy Region Southeast.
"The IG program can be a key enabler at every level of the organization to promote efficiency and effectiveness."
"For Shannon to be selected as senior civilian of the year is a formal acknowledgement that her outstanding contributions to our region, and Commander Navy Installations Command, are recognized and appreciated."
Davenport said being selected as senior civilian of the year was a truly humbling experience.
"I do realize what an honor it is and how many really remarkable civilian employees there are at CNRSE," said Davenport.
"I am also honored that my immediate leadership within the office of inspector general made such an effort just to submit me; I do recognize how lucky I am for that. I really believe in what we do and that our processes, when done well, provide a service to the command."
Outside of the command, Davenport volunteers with the Fort Worth Drowning Prevention Coalition, a nonprofit group that provides free drowning prevention to children and adults alike.
Individual selection criteria for the awards are based upon exemplary performance of tasks, contributions that enhanced organization accomplishment of command objectives, mission, teamwork or public image, and one's professional attitude toward self and others.
