A total of 324 participants woke up willing to be covered in dirt at the Mud Run at the Antenna Farm aboard NAS Jacksonville Oct. 1.
The distance was just shorter than a 5K and consisted of mud pits, hills, a ditch, tires, a pool of muddy water and concluded with a slip n' slide just before the finish line. Runners raced across rough terrain and even low crawled through the second mud pit. The race was not timed, as it was made for enjoyment rather than speed.
Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR) Fitness Director Jill Sheppard and Fitness Coordinator Jennifer Price led the runners in a warm-up stretch to prevent injuries. This proved to be successful as there were no injuries by the end of the event.
"The Mud Run was an overall success," said Sheppard. "You really get to know the people you work with and the people we serve so much better when coordinating a large event. I'm very happy to be a part of our outstanding MWR team and look forward to more successful events."
Patrons excitedly await next year and look forward to the upcoming Monster Dash 5K at the end of the month.
A special thanks to the NAS Jax Mud Run sponsors USAA and First Command!
