Brazilian aviators join P-3 community

Maritime patrol and reconnaissance aviators from the Brazilian Air Force - Força Aérea Brasileira (FAB) - visited NAS Jacksonville Nov. 17-22 to get a detailed look at how the U.S. Navy performs logistics and air traffic control involving the P-3 Orion. [ More ]

Top Sailors honored at SOQ luncheon
NAS Jacksonville's leaders recognized the achievements of their Sailors Nov. 19 by hosting a Sailor of the Quarter (SOQ) Luncheon at the NAS Jax Officers' Club. The luncheon recognized nearly 80 SOQs for the third quarter of 2009 from each of NAS Jax's tenant commands.

If you ride, get recertified
Since motorcycle recertification training became mandatory for all U.S. Navy and Department of Defense (DoD) personnel, fatalities for the Navy have decreased more than 60 percent. To fine tune those lifesaving skills, all motorcycle riders are required to complete follow-on recertification training every three years. Connie Policastro, lead motorcycle safety specialist for Navy Region Southeast, answered some of the most frequently asked questions about the recertification process.

Youth Activities Center hosts Military Family Appreciation Carnival
Approximately 1,200 people enjoyed the annual Military Family Appreciation Carnival Nov. 14 at the softball fields across from the Navy Exchange/Commissary complex. Luckily, the weather held for most of the afternoon as the children enjoyed several spinning rides, a giant slide, twirling strawberries, a Ferris wheel, trampoline and a spinning art machine.

Santa visits NEX giving tree celebration
Dozens of exuberant children from the NAS Jax Child Development Center sang Christmas songs at the NEX courtyard Nov. 19 - as they kept their eyes peeled for the first glimpse of Santa Claus - who would take his chair of honor next to the NEX Giving Tree.
