Sea of Sailors welcomes Obama

After a Monday morning meeting with his national security team on Afghanistan and Pakistan issues, President Barack Obama boarded Air Force One for a flight to Naval Air Station Jacksonville where he addressed more than 3,400 enthusiastic Sailors, Marines, Department of Defense civilians and military families. Afterward, he held a private meeting with 12 local active duty service members. [ More ]

SECNAV meets artisans at FRCSE
Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus toured Fleet Readiness Center Southeast (FRCSE) at Naval Air Station Jacksonville Oct. 26 to gain a deeper understanding of the F/A-18 Hornet strike fighter service life extension program.

'Nightdippers' return from AUTEC
HS-5 departed NAS Jacksonville in early October for nine days of intensive training at the Navy's Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) range headquartered on Andros Island in the Bahamas.

345th Combat Support Hospital welcomed home
A Welcome Home Warrior Citizen Ceremony was held for members of the 345th Combat Support Hospital (CSH) at NAS Jacksonville Oct. 24 to honor the unit and recognize its troops who recently returned home after a year-long deployment to Iraq. During their deployment, the 480 members of the unit provided medical support to three hospitals located in Al Sad, Tikrit and Mosul, Iraq. The unit includes Reserve soldiers from 41 states.

Readiness on the rise with HSM-70 'Spartans'
Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 70, established Feb. 12 at Naval Air Station (NAS) Jacksonville, continues to take shape as the east coast's first MH-60R Seahawk squadron.
