New law puts cap on payday loan interest

A major battle against payday lenders who prey on military service members was won last week when President George W. Bush signed the 2007 National Defense Authoriza-tion Act which includes a new law that caps payday loan interest rates at an annual rate of 36 percent for military members and their family members. Naval Air Depot Jacksonville transitions to Fleet Readiness Center Southeast
On Oct. 20, Commander, Fleet Readiness Centers (COMFRC) held a ceremony to stand-up Fleet Readiness Center, Southeast (FRCSE) aboard NAS Jacksonville. In transitioning to FRCSE, the former Naval Air Depot Jacksonville has completed its most significant change in the 66 years it has been doing business. Becoming a Fleet Readiness Center (FRC) is more than just a name change. The stand-up has established a partnership of aviation maintenance teams which includes intermediate-level technicians and depot-level artisans.

Third 'Boss' of Blues comes to air show
Spectators and performers at the 2006 NAS Jacksonville Air Show will witness history in the making when retired Navy Cmdr. Raleigh ''Dusty'' Rhodes, the third commanding officer of the Blue Angels (1947-1950) returns to Jacksonville this week. Rhodes, a World War II hero and a former prisoner of war (POW) will be the guest of honor at the 60th anniversary celebration of the Blue Angels.

Navy Surgeon General visits NavHosp Jax
Navy Surgeon General (SG) Vice Adm. Don Arthur visited Naval Hospital Jacksonville Oct. 19-20. During his visit, he was the keynote speaker at the Duval County Medical Society (DCMS) annual dinner meeting and addressed area physicians at the TRICARE Network Collaboration Breakfast.

You have to drive all the way to the end of NAS Jacksonville and nearly to the banks of the St. Johns river to access tenant command Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility, Jacksonville (FACSFAC Jax). But being on the edge of a naval base and operating from its practically hidden location in Building 118 does nothing to lessen its awesome responsibility.
