NAS Jax celebrates Navy birthday

Sailors and civilians celebrated the 231st anniversary of the Navy at the annual Navy Birthday Ball held at Hangar 116 Saturday. With an inspiring speaker, music, a gourmet meal and a replica of the Statue of Liberty as you walked into the dining area, it was truly an evening to remember. [ More ]

Hispanic heritage celebrated at NAS Jacksonville
The NAS Jacksonville Multi-Cultural Awareness Committee brought the festive sounds and tastes to life during the Hispanic Heritage Luncheon at the NAS Jax Officers' Club Oct. 12. The national anthem was delicately performed by Tiffany Richardson, a 12-year old flutist, who is the granddaughter of NAS Jax Security Manager Noemi Verdecias.

New policy allows civilians free use of fitness centers
A new policy goes into effect Nov. 1 that allows all Depart-ment of Defense (DoD) civilian employees, retirees and their families use Navy Morale, Welfare and Recre-ation (MWR) fitness centers and swimming pools at no cost. The new policy does not include contractors.

Keeping people educated on fire safety
NAS Jacksonville Fire Prevention Division personnel assisted by the base firefighters were out spreading the word about fire safety in the home during this year's Fire Prevention Week activities. Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 that killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres.

The making of an air show
Three spectacular days of high-flying entertainment for hundreds of thousands of spectators does not occur on its own. Nor, does the planning of such an event occur in just a week's time. Someone, somewhere is responsible for the extraordinary flight demonstrations that are taking place at NAS Jacksonville this month. An entire year of blood, sweat and tears goes into this three-day air show.
