[ More ] New Youth Activities Center is open for business The new NAS Jax Youth Activities Center (YAC) officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday morning. Mendez to relieve Hiscock at VR-58 Cmdr. Fermin Mendez will relieve Cmdr. William Hiscock as commanding officer of the VR-58 "Sunseekers" during a change of command ceremony Saturday at NAS Jacksonville. Capt. Sean Phinney, deputy commodore, Fleet Logistics Support Wing, will be the guest speaker. HS-5 returns from successful detachment The "Nightdippers" of HS-5 recently returned home from a detachment on board USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69), where they helped provide continuous search and rescue support during a two-week fleet and training command carrier qualification period. HS-5 departed NAS Jax on Sept. 12 taking 75 Sailors and four aircraft to Norfolk, Va. where they met the carrier.
