Hurricane season spinning up
The Atlantic hurricane season runs through Nov. 30 and as we approach the midway point of the season, tropical storms are lining up across the Atlantic. Tropical Storm Claudette recently moved over the Florida Panhandle and two other storms, Hurricane Bill and Tropical Depression Ana, ceased to be threats to the Florida peninsula. While meteorologists can never be certain where storms will make landfall or be certain of their potential for destruction - now is no time to drop your guard.

Some Sailors may experience compressed PCS timelines this fall?
The chief of naval personnel (CNP) released an update in NAVADMIN 236/09 on permanent change of station (PCS) orders indicating that some Sailors set to move in the first quarter of fiscal year 2010 (FY10) will receive their orders after Oct. 1.

'Pelican' crew completes Brunei detachment
Twenty-one members of the VP-45 'Pelicans' Kadena detachment have completed yet another successful detachment - this time to Brunei Darussalam, a small country that borders Malaysia and the South China Sea. The crew departed Aug. 4 and returned Aug. 9.

NAS Jax 1st Lieutenant Division does it all
With the some type of ceremony taking place just about every day at NAS Jax, especially during the summer months, the 1st Lieutenant Division personnel are constantly busy setting up, tearing down and issue out equipment. "We support NAS Jax and all the tenant commands with ceremonies such as changes of commands, retirements, frocking ceremonies and basically any kind of formal military event," said MNC(SW) Denny Jenkins, leading chief petty officer for the past two year and a half years.
