345th Combat Support Hospital heads to Iraq

A deployment farewell ceremony was held at NAS Jax Saturday to say goodbye to 480 members of the 345th Combat Support Hospital who are headed to Iraq for the next year. Hundreds of Soldiers and their families packed Hangar 117 for the special event to give a rousing send off to the troops who will spend time training at Fort Hood, Texas before deploying to Iraq. New Family Fitness Center opens here
The new Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department Family Fitness Center officially opened for business April 1. The center is located on the second floor of the Youth Activities Center gymnasium and offers a wide array of Life Fitness equipment for use by authorized patrons. MWR has invested nearly $36,500 to create the new center.


USO 'Toast to the Troops' care package stuffing party/concert is today
Military spouses and Greater Jacksonville Area USO volunteers are assembling more than 10,000 USO care packages today at NAS Jacksonville for a "Toast to the Troops" Stuffing Party sponsored by the Jack Daniel Distillery.

Third Annual Capt. Charles Cornett 10K Navy Run
More than 400 service members, civil service civilians, retirees, their families and runners from the Jacksonville community turned out for NAS Jacksonville's third annual Capt. Charles Cornett 10K Navy Run Saturday. The event featured a 10-kilometer competitive run, a five-kilometer non-competitive walk and a shoe fair in the Navy Exchange (NEX) parking lot.

USO hosts annual golf tournament
The Greater Jacksonville Area USO held its fifth annual Bob P. Coonan Memorial USO Golf Tournament April 3, to honor former USO Executive Director Bob Coonan, who passed away in February 2003 after battling cancer.
