Groundbreaking ceremony kicks off new helo hangar project

A groundbreaking ceremony to begin the project for a new state-of-the-art helicopter hangar at NAS Jacksonville was held March 7. The new facility is being built by Walbridge Aldinger Company and will cost approximately $73 million. It will provide hangar space for multiple SH-60B Seahawk helicopter squadrons until they are replaced by the MH-60R Romeo by 2015. [ More ]

VS-24 'Scouts' bid farewell
The "Scouts" of VS-24 will hold a disestablishment ceremony at NAS Jacksonville March 22 in Hangar 116 ending 64 years of service as an Atlantic Fleet carrier-based squadron.

NAS Jax honors Sailors of the Quarter
NAS Jacksonville's leaders recognized the achievements of their Sailors March 8 by hosting a Sailor of the Quarter (SOQ) Luncheon at the NAS Jax Officers' Club. The luncheon recognized nearly 60 SOQs for the fourth quarter of 2006 from each of NAS Jax's tenant commands.

Fleet Public Affairs Center Southeast; Bringing you the news
In August 2006, the Visual Information Support Center Jacksonville otherwise known as the photo lab, disestablished and became Fleet Public Affairs Center Southeast (FLTPACEN SE) which is now located at NS Mayport. The transition was initiated after the implementation of the mass communication specialist (MC) rating.

Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast received three Air Combat Command (ACC) Design awards Feb. 28 at the ACC/Agent Workshop and Design Awards luncheon held in Newport News, Va.
