NAS Jax recognizes Sailors of the Quarter

NAS Jacksonville recognized the Sailors of the Quarter (SOQ) for the 2007 fourth quarter at a luncheon at the NAS Jax Officers' Club Feb. 19. Mike Ross, a financial counselor at VyStar Credit Union and a retired Navy master chief petty officer, served as guest speaker during the luncheon. [ More ]

NATO deploys early warning aircraft to NAS Jax
An E-3A Airborne Early Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft is currently deployed to NAS Jacksonville from Geilenkirchen Air Base, Germany. The NATO aircraft is operating from NAS Jacksonville until March 7, in support of the USS George Washington Strike Group during an exercise off the Florida coast.

NAS Jax holds Black History Month observance
Sailors and civilian employees at NAS Jacksonville celebrated Black History Month with a luncheon honoring Carter G. Woodson, the godfather of Negro History Week at the NAS Jax Officers' Club Feb. 21. The theme of the luncheon was, "Carter G. Woodson and The Origins of Multiculturalism."

Sailors, civilians run to end breast cancer
Sailors, Department of Defense civilians, retirees and family members from NAS Jacksonville were among the 8,000 runners and thousands of volunteers who participated in the inaugural "26.2 with Donna The National Marathon to Fight Breast Cancer" Feb. 17.

McNair retires with 24 years service
HMCS(AW/FMF) Bryce McNair retired after 24 years of dedicated naval service in a ceremony Feb. 8 at the NAS Jacksonville Officers' Club. The guest speaker was Cmdr. Marva Wheeler, assistant officer in charge, Naval Survival Training Institute, Pensacola.
