Mayor tours NAS Jax construction projects

Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton visited NAS Jacksonville Jan. 7 to tour some of the city's top construction projects. Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast is building four projects on the Jacksonville Business Journal's top 28 commercial construction projects of 2007, three of them at NAS Jax. NAS Jax announces Sailor of the Year
AC1(AW/SW) Gregory West has been selected the 2007 NAS Jax Sailor of the Year (SOY). West was announced the winner at a small ceremony held in front of the NAS Jax chief's mess at The Zone.

TPU Jax adopts Southside Middle School
Transient Personnel Unit (TPU) Jax formally adopted Southside Middle School as part of the Navy's Adopt-A-School Program during a ceremony at the school Jan. 10. The event featured several key speakers including Southside Principal LaTanya Hasty, TPU Jax Commanding Officer Cmdr. Don Draper, Duval County School Board member Kris Barnes and Jacksonville City Councilman Don Redman.

Buehn retires after 30 years of service
Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility, Jacksonville Commanding Officer Capt. Robert Buehn retired Jan. 4 at NAS Jacksonville after a distinguished 30-year career as a naval aviator.
